Newsletter

Content:

This activity was completed in the Spring of 2007. The class was CI 3750 Media and Technology. I was under the advisement of Mr. Jeff Goodman. This activity was created to help keep parents and students informed about the events of the classroom that I will be completing my student teaching in. This newsletter will be an informative as well as a interactive document for students, parents, and myself.

Impact:

This activity is a way to inform parents of the events and of the learning process going on in their child's classroom. It also is a way for the students to get to know me better. I shared some of my favorite books and web sites. I included a photo of me when I was in fourth grade and a current photo.  I included upcoming events and dates, highlights for the week, reminders for students, a scavenger hunt for the students and their families, and a note of "Thanks" to several people. This newsletter also provided several ways for parents to contact during my student teaching. This activity will help develop a great working relationship with the students and their parents.

Alignment:

This activity met the following North Carolina Standards for Elementary Teachers:

NETS-T Technology Standards V-C, Teachers use technology to enhance professional practice by applying technology to increase productivity.

This standard was met by creating a newsletter for students and parents. It informs both parents and students of our weekly schedule, upcoming events and reminders for students. It also is a creative way for students and parents to have fun at home by doing scavenger hunts or a numerous of other activities.

NETS-T Technology Standards V-C, Teachers use technology to enhance professional practice using technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, parents, and the larger community in order to nurture student learning.

This standard was met by creating a newsletter that gave information about upcoming events, dates to remember, a weekly topic, and several ways to contact me during my student teaching such as:  phone number, e-mail address, and an open invitation to visit the classroom.

NCDPI Standard 16, Indicator 3, Elementary teachers develop as leaders in their schools and communities by staying informed about educational policy issues and supporting professional development. Elementary teachers participate in co-curricular activities, provide leadership in student and curriculum involvement, and connect these activities to the development of citizenship ideals in their students. Teachers communicate with parents, guardians, and caretakers, to build partnerships between home and school.

This standard was met by creating a newsletter that keeps many people who are involved with a student about the classroom and the events coming up. It is an ideal way to introduce myself to students and parents that will be in the classroom in which I will be working. It allows me the ability to send this on a weekly basis or at any given time.
