Respiration requires a process of gas exchange, defined as the uptake of molecular oxygen from the environment and the discharge of carbon dioxide to the environment.

In this session we will aim to reach the following objectives:

1. Analyze how gas exchange occurs across specialized respiratory surfaces
2. Explain how breathing ventilates the lungs
3. Identify adaptation for gas exchange 
4. Compare and contrast the structure and function of aquatic and terrestrial animals with aquatic and terrestrial plants
