Biography

I have grown up in a world that has no equal as to the advancements which now support living.  I am fortunate to have been born with health and curiosity.  With these luxuries, life is made easier but more dangerous when it is not examined for the results of activity.  The choice of doing the right thing has always been the goal for my life.  In order to do it right though, the need for clear communication and education are major supports for choices made.  During my maturing process, improving a sense known as critical thinking has been shaped.  Since each opportunity can present positive or negative results, analyzing choices and decisions that effect a positive outcome is made.  I realize that this silent process takes longer in some cases, but the benefits far outweigh the instant gratification of a poor choice.

I hear the question: "What would make someone want to teach today?"  That question prompts a response, to develop leadership traits, and is why I want to teach today!

I want to share what I have learned by teaching to apply it with the current curriculum.  My life's work has been learning to communicate and taken the course of helping others make informed and good choices.  The work, once fulfilling, became a business supporting the learning adventures I chose to undertake.   Now, I have a desire to share my experience of self disciplined learning and teach with a style that is student oriented and understanding the child's ability and spirit comes before teaching material.

My first two months Student Teaching a Second Grade, proved that I could lead students to learn by sharing experiences while teaching a curriculum.

  1. The Pre-Assessment for the unit showed a basic understanding and desire to learn how to tell time.
  2. Instruction and lessons are followed explicit teaching resulting in learning that is verified by summative testing.
  3. The Post-Assessment showed a comprehensive knowledge of analog, digital times and calendar too.

The second two months of Student Teaching a Special Education curriculum showed that the students looked to me for guidance.

  1. Establishing a daily routine was key for the students to be familiar with.  This provides regularity, an initial calmness.
  2. Teaching lessons then assisting each student with the daily and unit lessons.
  3. Assessing the learning and making necessary changes to a lesson to improve the effectiveness of learning.

I am committed to critical reflection for my personal growth because I feel this is the most important work I will ever do in my Life.

Being a student myself I have learned that there is a need to stimulate students' interests in learning.  Although the curriculum is chosen, the past experiences as a student give me a foundation to create a wonder when teaching.  This responsibility is blended modeling social skills that should be combined when delivering the school Districts curriculum, relevant for students.

A few thoughts guide my efforts:

  • I try and attempt to facilitate learning for all students realizing that all students will and can learn.
  • The human spirit will not continue without encouragement.  This is the reason I provide regular and appropriate feedback to encourage student focus during the lesson.
  • Using experiences that has shaped my life, I create connections to subject matter that make sense to students helping them learn and remember.
  • I know that a teachers' expectations impact student learning.
