BACKGROUND

Professor Neumann was appointed to San Diego State University in 1991. He holds a joint appointment with the School of Teacher Education, College of Education and the Division of Education, Imperial Valley Campus. In addition to teaching at San Diego State and the University of Colorado, Dr. Neumann has taught United States history courses in public high schools, including two experimental public alternative schools based on progressive educational theory.


RESEARCH INTERESTS

Professor Neumann has published articles on student alienation and school dropouts and is author of the book "Sixties Legacy: A History of the Public Alternative Schools Movement, 1967-2001," published by Peter Lang, 2003. He has also written on social education and issues of social justice and democractic citizenship as they relate to goals of public education.
