Field and clinical experiences connected to teacher preparation encompass four levels:

LEVEL I: FIELD EXPERIENCES
Classroom and professional development experiences associated with individual courses within a candidate's Plan of Study. Typically they require 20 or less hours of experiences such as observation of a classroom teacher(s), tutoring, and completion of specified professional development.

LEVEL 2: PRACTICUM
Practicum is a clinical experience. Similar to field experiences, practicum involve classroom and professional development experiences, but they are of longer duration and require guided observation and assisted (and limited unassisted) teaching. These clinical experiences are supervised by the designated classroom teacher and a College of Education faculty member (University Supervisor).

LEVEL 3: STUDENT TEACHING
Student Teaching is a clinical experience that consist of a full-time, full-term (one quarter) commitment by the teacher candidate.

LEVEL 4: INTERNSHIP
An internship is a clinical experience that consist of a full-time, one academic year commitment by the teacher candidate. This is the clinical experience option selected by candidates enrolled in the Alternative Certification programs - Certification Only and Master in Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)
