COE Liaison for Professional Development Initiatives: Update December 2009

The goal of the Liaison is to facilitate and coordinate the development of meaningful and effective collaboration between the Faculty and Teacher Candidates of the College of Education and the Faculty, Staff and Administrators of the Lincoln Parish Partnership Schools (Ruston Elementary, I.A. Lewis, Ruston Junior High, Ruston High School) so as to build and maintain partnerships that provide meaningful experiences for candidates while also meeting the professional needs of the partnership schools.

 

 

Primary Focus of  the Professional Development Initiatives Action Plan

Ruston Elementary:
- Activities to solidify Initiatives to improve Literacy and Numeracy
- Primary Focus on Early Literacy for All (ELFA) and Early Numeracy for All (ENFA) Projects
- Secondary Focus on developing/training tutors for extended day projects

I.A. Lewis:
-
Primary Focus on improving Literacy and Numeracy
- Secondary Focus on development of student study skills

RustonJunior High:
-
Primary Focus on improving Literacy
- Secondary Focus on development of student readiness for high school

Ruston High School:
-
Primary Focus on improving Literacy
- Secondary Focus on development of student retention and graduation 


Timeline of Activities - Fall 2009

September 15 – October 15: 

  • Meetings and conversations with school and central office administrators regarding the project and anticipated district/school needs.
  • Initial review of School Improvement Plans and district/school professional development initiatives

Initial conversations with COE faculty and staff.

October 15 – November 15:

  • School site visits and conversations with school administrators, faculty, and staff to gather additional perceptions and ideas for the project and to align projects to school and district goals.
  • Continued review of School Improvement Plans and district/school professional development initiatives with input from school faculty and paraprofessionals.
  • Additional conversations with COE faculty and staff.

November 15 – December 15:

  • Development of Professional Development Initiatives Action Plan      

  Planned Activities Beginning January 2010

  • The COE Liaison for Professional Development Initiatives will attend school faculty meetings to facilitate communication and collaboration between participants.
  • The COE Liaison for Professional Development Initiatives will meet with school and university faculty to develop a Professional Development Advisory Group and to facilitate the goals of the project.
  • The COE Liaison for Professional Development Initiatives will be trained in the SREB Coaching for School Improvement Module and will redeliver this material to faculty in the partner schools.
  • Candidates (in the field and in EDCI210) will develop brochures, posters, e-communications, and other items for use in promoting and advertising the professional development initiatives.
  • EDCI 456 Candidates will host a Family Math Night February 1 at I. A. Lewis
  • EDCI422/420M Candidates will develop a Math Night for elementary students and their parents/guardians
  • Additional family night activities for literacy projects.
  • Workshops for ELFA and ENFA extended day tutoring training start in early February.
