Directed Observation

Description

EDUC 473 is designed to smooth the transition from being a student to being a Student Teacher.  Activities are centered around the tasks, responsibilities, and assignments students will encounter during student teaching.  Students are placed in classrooms in their major disciplines for a minimum of 90 hours for observation, participation and teaching experiences.  These placements include city and rural schools with a mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the pupils.  Campus seminars include a wide variety of current topics in secondary education.

Measurable Objectives of the Experience

  • Design and describe an eclectic approach to teaching

  • <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

    Create and collect artifacts that reflect identified standards in the professional portfolio

  • Identify components of effective classroom management

  • Write lesson plans

  • Analyze lesson effectiveness

  • Examine methods to effectively use and manage technology

  • Use best practice teaching strategies to create an environment conducive to learning, and manage learner behavior to provide productive learning opportunities

  • Become familiar with local curriculum requirements and ways in which concepts are integrated across the curricula
