Description
EDUC 473 is designed to smooth the transition from being a student to being a Student Teacher. Activities are centered around the tasks, responsibilities, and assignments students will encounter during student teaching. Students are placed in classrooms in their major disciplines for a minimum of 90 hours for observation, participation and teaching experiences. These placements include city and rural schools with a mix of ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the pupils. Campus seminars include a wide variety of current topics in secondary education.

Design and describe an eclectic approach to teaching
Create and collect artifacts that reflect identified standards in the professional portfolio
Identify components of effective classroom management
Write lesson plans
Analyze lesson effectiveness
Examine methods to effectively use and manage technology
Use best practice teaching strategies to create an environment conducive to learning, and manage learner behavior to provide productive learning opportunities
Become familiar with local curriculum requirements and ways in which concepts are integrated across the curricula
