Student Teachner

During Student Teaching at Louisiana Tech:

:: teacher candidates complete a clinical experience in which they gain an awareness of the various roles and responsibilities of teachers;

:: develop an understanding of how theory and practice are related;

:: participate at the school level to receive practice and feedback from school personnel;

:: and utilize their acquired knowledge and skills of teaching through implementation in the field. Implementation in the field, Student Teaching, is a clinical experience in which the teacher candidate is placed in a class for the full day for a minimum of 10 weeks. Under the full-time supervision of the mentor teacher, clinical supervisor, the teacher candidate is involved in the processes of instruction for a minimum of 270 hours. Of these hours, 180 are connected to direct teaching activities with a significant portion devoted to full-time instruction of students. During this time, the teacher candidate assumes all classroom responsibilities including planning, preparing classroom reports, handling various ancillary duties (e.g. lunch, playground, etc.) and all day teaching.
