May I enroll in additional courses while completing the Student Teaching clinical experience?     
      Yes, but only three additional hours may be taken while enrolled in Student Teaching and NO coursework should be scheduled during the academic P-12 school day.

Do I receive a grade for Student Teaching?      
      The final evaluation for Student Teaching is S/F (satisfactory or failure); no conventional grades or quality points are given. The Clinical School Faculty, the Clinical University Faculty, and the Director of Field and Clinical Experiences determine the grade jointly.

What are the requirements/prerequisites for enrolling in student teaching?     
      Reference the Student Teaching Handbook in the Documents/Forms section of the Student Teaching page of this website for a listing of the prerequisites for admission into Student Teaching.

May the teacher candidate arrange their on student teaching placement with a specific teacher on at a particiular school?     
      No. Under no circumstances does a Teacher Candidate arrange individual placement with a particular teacher or school.

May I be assigned to aschool where i attended as a student?     
      Student Teachers are NOT assigned to a school where she/he attended as a student.

May I be assigned to a school where a member of my immediate family either works or is in attendance?      
      Student Teachers are NOT assigned to any school where she/he has immediate family employed or in attendance.

May I be assigned to a Clinical School Faculty member who taught me as a student?
      Student Teachers are NOT assigned to a Clinical School Faculty member who has taught the prospective Teacher Candidate.

If I complete my required hours prior to the last day of scheduled Student Teaching, must I student teach until the last day?
      Yes, Student Teachers are expected to honor their professional committment to the assigned school and Clinical School Faculty. The means to student each until the last day of the scheduled student teaching experience.

Which school calendar should I follow, the university's or the school where I am assigned?
      Teacher Candidates are to follow the same calendar as the school system to which they are assigned.

How many absences may I have during Student Teaching?
      Absences are inexcusable except in the case of illness, death in the family, or other serious circumstance that MUST be reported immediately via phone and email to the Office of Field and Clinical Experiences, the Clinical School faculty member, and the Clinical University Faculty member. If more than two absences occur, the Teacher Candidate will make up the time missed prior to the completion of Clinical Practice or graduation. Excessive absences may delay graduation.

Substitute Teaching - the school where I am assigned has asked me to serve as a substitute teacher - can I do that?
      No. A Teacher Candidate may not serve as a paid (or unpaid) substitute teacher in a local school system. In the event of absence of the Clinical School Faculty member, the school system must provide a substitute teacher who assumes legal responsibility for the classroom and students.

How Should I Dress for Student Teaching?
You should dress as would be expected of a professional educator. The Lincoln Parish School District has a Dress Code Policy for Administrators and Teachers (see attachment in the Documents and Forms section). Please use the guidelines within that document as a standard for your attire.
