Climate/Poster Team Assignment Mr. Olson

Due: Monday, September 22nd

You are Photojournalists!

You all work together for a new magazine titled Climate Today. You have been asked to put together the centerfold spread story. Your editor has assigned you to choose a country to travel to and then assemble a layout report, focusing on the climate of different cities on the same continent. Each of you will concentrate on your own different city.

You must assemble a creative poster, layout and written report with the following:

Poster Title using Word Art
Title for each story using Word Art
Individual magazine style report for your own city (minimum ½ page – double spaced using size 12-font)
2 Images from the web per city

Each person writes their own, separate report and includes it as part of the layout. Pretend you are a magazine writer and in your own climate report include the following criteria:

1) Location - where is your city located?
2)          Place - what is your city like?
3) What are the prevailing winds? See page 62.
4) Is the climate affected by nearness to a large body of water or elevation? Explain.
5) Is your city affected by nearness to the equator? Remember when we talked about Equniox and Solstice?
6) Do any land features affect the climate? Identify the features and explain
7) Refer to the climate map on page 66-67. Classify the climate of your area.
8) Describe the vegetation in the area. See regions on page 72-73.
9) Human-Environment. How are humans interacting with the environment in your city? Think about the vegetation and climate.
10) What is the annual temperature and rainfall/snowfall  for your city? (you'll have to search the web for this one)
Are you actually reading this? Be the first group to tell Mr. Olson that you enjoyed watching "The Perfect Storm" yesterday  and each person in your group earns $1 Olson Dollar.

USE THE ANSWERS TO THE ABOVE 10 QUESTIONS AND ASSEMBLE THEM INTO YOUR REPORT. SEE THE SAMPLES FROM LAST YEAR TO GET IDEAS. BE CREATIVE AS YOU TURN YOUR  ANSWERS INTO THE FINAL REPORT.

Grading Rubric:

Questions answered, chapter 2 terms used – 40%
Magazine style report – well written, grammar, spelling, edited – 30%
Word Art used – 20%
Layout/Artistic design – 10%
Color Bonus - 3% (print things in color and earn extra points - all the school printers are B&W). Plus if you print in color everyone in your group earns $2 Olson Dollars. However, you must turn your assignment in on time in order to earn the Olson Dollars!
