Mr. Olson has has been involved in radio for over 25 years working mostly in sports broadcasting. He was the Sports Director at KNBR Radio in San Francisco from 1993-2001. One of his true passions is play-by-play and he has announced everything from football to roller hockey. He even announced a fencing match once on local radio and served as the ringside public address announcer at the 1997 & 1998 U.S. Arm Wrestling Championships.
His sports travels have taken him to over 40 states and 5 Canadian provinces so he is quite the whiz at North American geography. Being a U.S. history buff, he always takes time when he travels on the road to see the sights and check out the local culture and history.
Mr. Olson has covered Super Bowls, The World Series, The All-Star Game, The NBA Finals, The NCAA Final Four, The U.S. Open Golf Championship and many Major Title Fights.
He has experience broadcasting for virtually every major league sport. He's been involved in post-game coverage on both 49ers and Raiders games, worked as a broadcaster for both the Sharks and Warriors and was even there with a microphone at McCovey Cove the night Barry Bonds hit his 500th Home Run. He was "johnny on the spot" and interviewed the fan that fished the ball out of the bay. His exclusive interview ran live on the Giants 14 station radio network.
Mr. Olson still dabbles part-time in play-by-play and this coming winter he'll start his 24th season announcing games for the University of San Francisco Men's basketball team - better known as the USF Dons - who compete in NCAA Division 1 basketball out of the West Coast Conference. In December of 2012 he celebrated his 700th broadcast with USF. He can be heard during the school year he can be heard calling the play-by-play for basketball, volleyball and baseball on www.usfdons.com live on the Internet.
