Documentary #1

The Organ Trade by Underworld Inc.

Bittu making a joke that he could get Jassa to donate both of his kidneys if he made a good enough monetary offer in the Organ Trade Documentary.

What was most striking to me about this documentary is the character of “Bittu,” who was the kidney hunter involved in convincing “Jassa” to donate his kidney. According to this character, with a good enough monetary compensation, he could get nearly every poor person to donate different parts of their body. The role of this character is really striking to me because this man acts as if being a kidney hunter is a normal, stable career. He does not see any problem with the expulsion of these poor people. Before watching this documentary, I did not know that there is a specific person who haunts for these potential donors. I used to think that the person who wanted to donate would connect to the black market to find a doctor who was known for these types of illegal organ donor surgeries. The way this chain works is very shocking because it involves a lot of people who are all desperate and make a profit off of each other. This chain would not exist if each country did a better job at providing the proper medical assistance and health care to its people.

To watch the first encounter between Bittu and Jassa, watch video from 7:50-9:05.
