  • Wrote a closed memorandum on a case involving the Health Care Quality Improvement Act of 1986.
  • Researched Illnois' Good Samaritan Act and wrote a memorandum on whether a client would be able to establish a Good Samaritan Defense.
  • Working on an opposition to a motion for summary judgment for a case involving lack of informed consent in Cook County of Illinois.

 

Access to Health (Spring 2015)

  • Travelled to McAllen, TX to study health equity issues specific to the Rio Grande Valley that occur as a result of the large uninsured population, Texas' refusal to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, and the unique challenges that come with being part of the United States-Mexico borderland.
  • Learned how social determinants such as race, gender, and socio-economic status affect health equity.
  • Studied how the legal status of undocumented immigrants affects their access to health in the United States.
  • Visited colonias, residential communites in unincorporated areas along the Texas-Mexico border that may lack some of the most basic living necessities, such as potable water, sewage systems, electricity, paved roads and safe/ sanitary housing.
