2. Mini-Teaching

Each week, all of the groups in the class will take turns showcasing to the class the apps they have discovered. Our group presented our Mini-Lesson on October 23rd (week 9)

What our group has done: Our group, Girl Power, taught the class two apps called Ted Conferences and A+ Flashcard Pro. The group members are Hannah Piron (me), Kayla Gessner, Lindsy Geery, and Stephanie Castelli

My contribution: Kayla and I presented the app TED Conferences. Before class, we became very familiar with the app and took the time to practice and explore all the features. We also told the class to download the class before class so they were prepared. We hooked the iPad up to the computer and showed the class how to navigate through the app. We also showed a sample video of a TED talk about how to tie your shoes. This gave the class an idea of what the TED talks consist of and hopefully grasped their attention and made them interested. Lindsy and Stephanie presented the app A+ Flashcard Pro and Kayla and I monitored the class. We made sure that all the students were on task and answered any questions they had.

This is the feedback we recieved from our classmates:
Pros:
-Clear
-Organized
-Kept the students on task
-Loud, made sure everyone heard what was said
-Very familiar with the apps
-Prepared
-Also talked about how to use in the classroom setting
-Modeled
-Basics first, then more advanced skills next
-Very good team work

Constructive Feedback:
-Classroom layout is tough, making sure everyone is paying attention
-Strategies: Have students pair up, check for understanding (hands up)

What I have gained from this activity:

I have gained full knowledge on the apps TED Conferences and A+ Flashcard Pro. I have also learned how to facilitate and manage the classroom. I have also gained knowledge in using the smart board and the ELMO which would be very beneficial to my teaching career.
