Story Pictures Rationale

Context:

These documents were created in the spring 2008 semester for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching.  This activity was created with the guidance of Mr. Jeff Goodman, a professor with the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University.  Michelle York, Beth Seese, and I worked together to create the Sample Story Pictures during class at the Hickory Metro Higher Education Center. To complete this assignment, we used a digital camera and Microsoft Word.  The story pictures for students were created using pictures of my son Avery Pittman and some family friends.

Impact:

This lesson was created to teach students through technology and language arts. Storybook pictures can be used for either third or fourth grade students to teach them: 1) how to use a digital camera, 2) how to sequence events to create a story, 3) how to copy, paste, and use Microsoft word, and 4) for creative writing skills.  The students will have the responsibility of working in a group using a digital camera to take pictures that they will use to create their story.  They will learn various functions of Microsoft word as they arrange their photos.  They will also learn language and writing skills as they create paragraphs describing their photos in a logical sequence of events.
