Rationale: Impact Unit
Context: I created this unit during my student teaching experience at Rural Hall Elementary School in Forsyth County. I created 5 lessons for an animal unit. The children studied mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and insects. This unit was designed for a second grade class.
Impact: This impact unit affected the students because they were able to learn about the animals and creatures that are around them. The students were able to use a variety of books and technology resources to help them in understanding the characteristics of the animals, as well as the animals themselves.
Alignment: I met Standard 3 because I have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science. I met indicator 1 because I have a knowledge of basic life science concepts including life cycles, mutations, and adaptations.
I met Standard 10 because I provided an active inquiry experiences in the teaching of science by using various questioning skills and developing science processing skills (predicting, classifying, measuring, inferring, interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing).
I met Standard 12 because I worked alone and was able to integrate the arts into the elementary curriculum.
