Rationale:
Context: I did a reading assessment with a third grade girl in the class I was interning with at Blue Ridge Elementary in Ashe County, NC. I was able to use the computer to get the flash part of the assessment, the student was timed for one minute on the readings. I used a calculator to help calculate what her percentages were for her words per minute were, and accuracy rate.
Impact: I believe this help put the student at her correct reading level for her grade. The student was a good reader and right on target for her grade.
Alignment: I met standard 1 by having a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in English Language Arts and Literacy. I met indicator 4 by understanding an elementary school child's social, cultural, linguistic, cognitive, and affective background. I was able to see this from doing the reading assessment with the child. Also it relates to the ability to develop effective communication by; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. I saw this from her communicating to me through what she read from the passage, and her understanding of the passage, through her communication of answering the questions. The student was able to listen, and comprehend what the passage was saying from reading it to me.
