Rationale:
Context: In creating this moon journal I put a lot of thought and effort into it. It took a long time to observe and reflect on what I saw. In doing this I learned about astronomy and the Earth and moon that is around us.
Impact: I did this journal so I could do this with my future class. That way they would have a model to go by. I also did this so the students would understand astronomy better.
Alignment: I met standard 2 by having a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in mathematics. I met indicator 2 by having a broad knowledge of geometry and measurement. I was able to this by knowing how to draw the phase of the moon. I was able to do this because I understood this because I knew how to construct simple geometric figures. I also applied concepts of relative positions and relationships and the geometric formulas.
I met standard 3 because I have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts of science. I met indicator 3 by having a knowledge of planetary astronomy like; objects in the sky, changes in the Earth, and sky, and the weather. I also knew about the properties of Earth materials such as rocks, minerals, fossils, water, and air. I also knew about Earth dynamics and the systems. I met this by also having an interaction of Earth and living systems including management of natural resources, and pollution.
I met standard 12 by working alone on this project. I was able to integrate the arts into the elementary curriculum by drawing the shape and phase of the moon I saw that night in the Earth's sky.
