UTP Student Handbook

UTP Student Handbook

Welcome to the School of Urban Education (UED) and its Urban Teacher Program (UTP) at Metropolitan State University! The UED/UTP mission is unique, as it explicitly works to recruit and retain teachers of color to serve children and youth in the Twin Cities and its inner-ring suburbs. Hence, you have made an important commitment to facilitating the learning and teaching of historically marginalized children and youth and serve the communities in which they reside.

The UTP staff and faculty have created this online student handbook with the primary goal of supporting you on your journey to becoming a licensed urban teacher. This handbook contains important information and the necessary forms you need to progress through the UTP from the point of admission to licensure.  Hence, we strongly recommend that you become familiar with this handbook’s contents in addition to communicating with your professional and/or faculty advisors on a regular basis to discuss and complete Program requirements.
