Urban Teacher Program (UTP) Student Handbook

Urban Teacher Program (UTP) Student Handbook

METRO UED Logo.JPG

Welcome to this handbook for students in the School of Urban Education (UED) and our Urban Teacher Program (UTP) at Metropolitan State University! The UED/UTP mission is special and important as we prioritize explicitly working to recruit and retain teachers of color to serve children and youth in the Twin Cities metro area.  You and all students in our program have made an important commitment to facilitating learning and equitable outcomes for BIPOC children and youth and the communities in which they reside.  Thank you.

UED faculty and staff (see directory attached below) have created this online student handbook with the primary goal of supporting you on your journey to becoming a licensed urban teacher. This handbook contains important information and forms you need from admission to licensure.  Take time to become familiar with this handbook’s contents in addition to communicating with your advisor on a regular basis to discuss and complete program requirements. If there is any information you think should be updated or added, please let us know at urban.education@metrostate.edu or through your advisor.

Best wishes for your successful completion of your program,

Paul Spies, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Urban Education
