III. Seeking Admission to the UTP

INTRO

Admission to the Urban Teacher Program (UTP) requires admission to Metropolitan State University and demonstration of meeting UTP admission criteria by fulfilling the admission requirements listed below. In order to enroll in 300 & 400 level Education courses, one must be admitted to the Urban Teacher Program.

CRITERIA

  • Demonstrate commitment to teaching in an urban context.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and respect for diverse urban learners and their communities.
  • Successfully complete at least 40 hours of experience working with youth in an urban setting.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct for positive interactions with students and educators in an urban environment.
  • Successfully complete EDU and ETHN coursework required for admission with a C or higher and an overall GPA of 2.5 (undergrads) or 2.75 (grads) or higher.
    (Note: Undergraduate students with a 2.0-2.49 GPA may apply for conditional admission.)
