II. UTP Standards of Professional Conduct

The Urban Teacher Program (UTP) at Metropolitan State University expects teacher candidates to work effectively in diverse urban educational settings with children, teachers, families, communities, and other school-based or community-based personnel. Such work in the program requires being aware of various standards of professional conduct for success as an urban teacher candidate. Teacher candidates at various stages throughout the program ranging from those who are seeking admission to those who have completed student teaching and seeking a program recommendation to the state for teaching licensure will receive, read and refer to the following source documents for guidance towards meeting UTP expectations:

    These are the professional dispositions expected of all teacher candidates and the form to use by candidates themselves for self-reflection as well as by cooperating teachers, faculty and staff when assessing candidates' dispositions.

    This is a summary of the 10 Standards of Effective Practice for Beginning Teachers in Minnesota. Each standard has several competencies totaling more than 120 for the whole set of standards. All coursework and student teaching is aligned to these standards for performance.
