X. Expressing Complaints, Providing Suggestions and Other Feedback

The School of Urban Education and Metro State take student complaints and grievances seriously.  Three important resources of information include:

What if you have a complaint or grievance about something you have experienced or an aspect your program or the School of Urban Education?

  1. ​Express your concern to the instructor, and try to resolve the issue.
  2. If your informal appeal to the instructor isn't granted, then contact the Department Chair to discuss your concern. 
  3. If you are still not satisfied, you have a right to submit a formal academic appeal as explained at https://www.metrostate.edu/academics/success/appeals 
  • If it is a complaint about an instructor's or advisor's or other staff member's performance, then...
  1. ​Express your concern to the person directly, and tell them how you would like them to address situation.
  2. If it is a faculty member and your concern is not satisfactorily addressed, then contact the Department Chair. If your concern is still not addressed, then contact the Dean of the School of Urban Education.
  3. If it is a staff member, and your concern is not satisfactorily addressed, then contact the Dean of the School of Urban Education. 
  4. If it is the Dean you wish to complain about, then contact the University Provost.
  • If it is a complaint about a policy or practice in the School of Urban Education or your program, then express your concern with the program coordinator and/or Urban Education Department Chair.  If your concern is still not addressed, then contact the Dean of the School of Urban Education.

What if you have a suggestion for improving your program or the School of Urban Education?

  • We love to hear how we can improve and strengthen our programs and service to students.  Email your idea to urban.education@metrostate.edu and/or request a meeting with your program coordinator, Department Chair or Dean.
