Welcome to Metro State University's School of Urban Education (UED) Self-Study Report! The UED is explicitly designed to offer programs aimed at meeting the need for more racially, ethnically and linguistically diverse teachers within the Twin Cities metro area.  Our work is crucial to the state's efforts at growing a teaching workforce of effective educators who reflect the increasing percentage of BIPOC students in P-12 schools and who are skilled at meeting the needs of all learners.

UED staff and faculty have created this online Self-Study Report with the primary goal of detailing who we are, what we do, and how we do it in relation to each of 29 new standards for continuing unit approval per Minnesota Rules Part 8705.1010 subparts 1-6 that came into effect in July 2022. Each section of the report provides a narrative with hyperlinked evidence that together demonstrates UED’s attainment of each of the standards within a framework of continuous improvement.  Indeed, our programs, unit and personnel have changed and gotten better in many ways since our last site visit in 2018 that resulted in PELSB granting continuing unit approval.

UED faculty and staff work hard to meet the needs of our teacher candidates and stakeholders for diverse, effective urban teachers who positively impact urban B-12 learners, their schools and communities. We embrace opportunities for continuous improvement so we welcome your careful review of our entire program and feedback. We look forward to the PELSB site team's visit scheduled for October 2-4, 2023 to affirm and further clarify how the UED addresses each standard.  Please feel free to ask any questions in the meantime.
