(3) Cooperating Teacher License Aligned to Content Area

Standard 14: For a candidate working as a teacher of record while completing a teacher preparation program to obtain an initial professional license, the unit must ensure:

(3) a cooperating teacher holding a professional license aligned to the licensure area or scope of the license sought is available in the school to work with the candidate to model effective practices and provide feedback throughout the course of the student teaching experience.

If the cooperating teacher holding a professional license in the licensure area who is responsible for being available to work with their colleague/our candidate throughout their official student teaching period is not also available to model effective practices and provide observational feedback, the UED Director of Field Experiences ensures with the school principal to avail another cooperating teacher. The principal ensures the cooperating teacher holds a professional Tier 3 or 4 license aligned to the licensure area or scope of the license sought (but a different licensure area) and is available in the school to work with the candidate to model effective instructional practices, including use of academic standards and culturally responsive pedagogy, and provide written, observational and actionable feedback at least five (5) times throughout the course of the student teaching experience.
