The UED Director of Field Experiences provides training including informative resources (quick reference materials) that clearly detail expectations of the program goals. Pre-pandemic, all cooperating teachers for student teaching experiences were required to attend a Kick-Off orientation at the beginning of the semester during which the student teaching placement occurs. During these orientations conducted by the Director of Field Experiences, cooperating teachers receive and discuss the expectations and logistics of hosting a UED student teacher. These roles, expectations, observation and overall evaluation instruments and timeline of student teacher responsibilities while implementing a co-teaching model are all included in the kick-off workshop packet given to attendees in the beginning of each semester.
Now, the Director of Field Experiences provides video-recorded training for cooperating teachers and the required topics in this standard are discussed with the university supervisor before the placement begins or the first week of the placement when they have their first triad meeting with the student teacher. Materials included as part of the Cooperating Teachers’ Student Teaching orientation folder include:
For cooperating teachers who host candidates in pre-student teaching clinical field experiences, they are also provided a video recording of the training made by the Director of Field Experiences which describes the cooperating teacher's role, program expectations, candidate assessments, procedures, and timelines.
