2022 METRO STATE SCHOOL OF URBAN EDUCATION UNIT REPORT TO PELSB

(1) Qualifications

Standard 15: The unit must ensure each supervisor:

(1) is qualified by one of the following:

(a) holding or having held a professional license aligned to the licensure field or scope of the license sought by the candidate and at least three years of experience as a teacher of record; or

(b) being a current or former E-12 administrator with documented experience in teacher evaluation;

UED university supervisors play an important role in the development and assessment of teacher candidates. The UED Director of Field Experiences ensures that all university supervisors are qualified by either (1a) or (1b). Almost all student teaching supervisors are hired as “community” adjunct faculty members; hence, their transcripts and resume are checked to ensure that they meet the required minimum qualifications for the university faculty and for this standard. They must have:

  • earned at least a master’s degree;
  • held or hold a valid teaching license aligned with the licensure field, scope or content area sought by the teacher candidate; and
  • taught for at least three (3) years in a public school as a teacher of record; or
  • documented experience in teacher evaluation as a current or former E-12 administrator.

The Director of Field Experience keeps a record in TaskStream of which of the two qualifications, (a) or (b), the supervisor has met (see Figure 15.1).
