2022 METRO STATE SCHOOL OF URBAN EDUCATION UNIT REPORT TO PELSB

(3) Program Completion

Standard 20: The unit must provide each candidate with individualized advising, which includes:
(3) documenting program completion.

In order to complete the program, UTP candidates must successfully complete the five criteria published in section XIII. of the UTP Student Handbook. The completion criteria include: (a) satisfactory completion of all coursework and field experiences, (b) earning and maintaining a minimum GPA in content and professional education coursework, (c) attempting to pass MTLE content and pedagogy exams, (d) satisfactory completion of student teaching, and (e) submission of an edTPA portfolio for scoring.

There are three means and records of documenting program completion for each candidate:

  • DARS Reports
  • Graduation Review based on DARS report
  • Licensure Checklist including:
    • Completion of bachelor’s degree requirements and/or coursework required for licensure if a graduate student
    • Attempt to pass MTLE content and pedagogy exams
    • Successful completion of student teaching
    • Completion of the edTPA

The UED License Officer uses a program completion/licensure checklist to sign off teacher candidate licensure applications. Candidates who have completed all program requirements but who have not yet passed the MTLE content and/or pedagogy exams may be recommended for a Tier 2 license. Candidates who have completed all program requirements and have passed both the MTLE content and pedagogy exams are recommended for Tier 3 licensure.
