Options for meeting US Constitution requirements


There are multiple options for satisfying the US constitution requirement for the Initial California Teacher Credential. 


Option 1:

 Exam – You can take one of the exams below. Submit your score report to TaskStream and your campus Credential Analyst

  • Notre Dame University  (Online) http://www.usconstitutionexam.com/
  • AP Exams in Government or U.S. History (if holds credit value on transcripts)
  • CLEP—Score 50 or better 

§  American Government

§  US History

 



Option 2:

Coursework: Upload an official transcript to TaskStream and send a copy to your campus Credential Analyst

UOPX Coursework that may apply

  • HIS 301 (3 credits)

A CSU--BA/BS  degree

  • Any student that attended a CSU with a BA or BS degree has met the requirement
  • Automatic (no stipulation on graduation date or grade received per CTC Alert 9/2004)

Other Coursework:

  • Other coursework: 
    • Any College/University (community, junior, or 4 year) that is Regionally accredited,
    • Must have earned a grade C or better:
    • Must Submit Official Transcripts & course description to the University for review
      • Course must cover history of Constitution, US History prior to1865 prior to reconstruction (ie. Political Science 1, American Gov’t): review the  CCAC Survey of approved coursework booklet 2006 http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/cig/HANDBOOKS/Credential-Course-Work.pdf  (on CIG)

 

The following items are UNACCEPTABLE and will NOT meet the US Constitution requirement

  • Test to become a naturalized citizen 
  • UOPX course HIS 501 (1 credit only)
