The purpose of the RICA is to ensure that California-trained candidates for Multiple Subject Teaching Credentials and Education Specialist Instruction Credentials (special education) possess the knowledge and skills important for the provision of effective reading instruction to students.
The set of teacher knowledge and skills described in the RICA Content Specifications and reflected in the RICA is organized into the following five domains:
There are two options for the RICA, a written exam or a video performance exam. Because most of our students are not in the classroom, they typically take the written exam.
There are multiple resources for preparing for the RICA
Our recommendations to prepare are:
1) reiview the California Standards for reading - http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/
2) review multiple study materials available to help you prepare for the exam, particularly in those standards you are unsure about
3) complete the practice exams on CTC website
