The CSET exam or a subject matter waiver from a California University with a Commission-approved subject matter program is required for all individuals applying for a first time teaching credential enrolled in the Teacher Preparation programs at University of Phoenix.
A student must have taken and received a passing score on all appropriate subtests of the CSET exam in their content area by the time they are ready to apply for their student teaching practicum. It is recommended that students begin taking their CSET exams as soon as they are comfortable, allowing for re-takes of the exam(s) prior to student teaching application deadlines (April 1st for Fall Semester and September 1st for Sprint Semester respectively).
The test scores on the CSET exams are valid for 5 years, so you must student teach, graduate, and apply for your credential within 5 years of passing these exams or they will be required to retake these exams before student teaching or applying for a credential.
