Below is attached a health lesson on bullying.
Rationale
Context: This is a lesson I taught during my student teaching in the spring of 2008. In this lesson I read the book The Band Aid Chicken to the students. This book was about bullying and how children should stand up to bullying. The students also did a worksheet with questions about bullying. Then the students made puppets that were chickens and put a band aid on a chicken to help remind them of how to stand up when they see someone being bullied. Then I let the students use their puppets and reenact parts of the story.
Impact: This lesson impacted my students by teaching them about bullying one another. This lesson lets the children see how it feels to be bullied, and why you should not bully someone. This lesson also tells children that you should stand up against bullying and not to let other people bully people. The children really like the story about bullying and making the puppets.
Alignment:
I have met Standard 5, Indicator 1 by the lesson on bullying I taught my students during student teaching. The students understood that a health life style consisted of being healthy emotional. This lesson targets bullying and how you should stand up for what right.
I have met Standard 6, indicator 1and 2 by having the children make a puppet of a chicken in the story to help remind them about bullying.
I have met Standard 13 by create an environment that was healthy for children by trying to keep bullying out of the classroom. At the end of the lesson I let student use their puppets to reenact parts of the story that we read.
