Candidates in the M.Ed. program are required to complete:

  1. A study plan by specific areas of concentration within the Master of Education program.

The candidate must meet with the graduate program coordinator to devise a study plan within the first semester of study whereby educational goals are planned and degree requirements are discussed. The study plan is a list of courses to meet degree requirements. Once the study plan is approved by the program coordinator, any subsequent changes must be approved by the aforementioned.

The program of study must not be less than 30 credit hours with a minimum of 18 credit hours of the entire program of study taken in 600-level courses, 9 credits of which must be in the area of concentration. Candidates will have six years from the time of their first course to complete their degree. Exceptions for extensions can only be provided by the graduate program coordinator and the director of graduate services.

  1. Any candidate who isn't enrolled for a period of 18 months will need to reapply for acceptance into the program and develop a new study plan under the most recent catalog.
  2. Candidates must maintain a 3.0 GPA to continue as a graduate candidate in the program. Grades of F, FX or WF will result in dismissal from that program and the candidate cannot reapply to that program of study. Appeals are considered through the College of Education Academic Monitoring Committee. Candidates who are struggling should contact Program Coordinator. See Academic and Student Support section in this handbook.
  3. Candidates need to apply for Degree Candidacy to continue toward eligibility for graduation.
  4. All M.Ed. candidates are required to complete a Capstone Research Project.
  5. Candidates need to purchase Taskstream for assessment compliance.

Note: See Graduate catalog for all policies and procedures required to complete a master's program.
