Task 3- Original Poetry

You will also need to write an original poem, of your own creation.  The poem does not neccessarily have to have the same theme as you picked before.  Your original poem can by any type of poetry.  You might want to consider some of the following options for you own poetry:

  • found poetry (see attached directions)

  • headline poetry (see attached directions)

  • sonnet

  • slam poetry

  • free verse

  • autobiography

  • lyric

  • ode

  • ballad

Your poem must be at least 16 to 20 lines long and contain four stanzas.  On the last day of class we will have a poetry feather circle.  You will share your original poem with the class, so make sure that it is appropriate and that you are willing to share your poem.  You will need to have TWO copies of your poem--one for your portfolio and one to read during the feather circle.  Your poem must include at least one of each of the following poetical devices:

  • similie
  • metaphor
  • personification
  • alliteration
  • rhyme
  • repetition

Before turning in your poem, highlight each of these devices in your poem and label them.
