Welcome to the Standard 2.1 Reading, Writing, and Oral Language section of my portfolio.
This section includes artifacts that represent what I have learned that pertains to the ACEI Standard 2.1: Reading, Writing, and Oral Language, which states that “candidates demonstrate a high level of competence in use of English language arts and they know, understand, and use concepts from reading, language and child development, to teach reading, writing, speaking, viewing, listening, and thinking skills and to help students successfully apply their developing skills to many different situations, materials, and ideas.”
Please take some time to view my associated artifacts.
Artifacts that I have completed that are representative of meeting the ACEI standard are my 20 children’s book summaries. The children’s book summaries include books from the following genres:
In addition, I have included books that are multi-cultural. I chose these books keeping in mind my future classroom and how I could incorporate each book in teaching children literacy.
Each children’s book summary write-up includes the book information in APA format, book type, how the book can be used in a classroom, the NYSED learning standards that are addressed and how they are addressed through use of the book, two ways that students could respond to the literature, two other books that can be used with the book (giving titles and authors), and what I like best about the book.
In completing all 20 summaries, I have learned about all types of books and the way each works to enable students to meet various ELA Core Standards. I also learned a lot from using some of the books in my host classroom for purposes of teaching small group lessons involving listening skills, as well as using one of the books to create a storyboard.
My learning applies to the standard in the following ways:
