Professional Goals

I am most interested in becoming a physician. I have been exposed to the medical field through various job shadowing and internship experiences. I have determined that I am most interested in medicine because I enjoy learning about the human body, understanding biological processes, and helping others.

Although many students are able to claim which field of medicine they most specifically would like to pursue, I, on the other hand, do not know which path is best for me. I have been blessed with the opportunity to shadow and observe in multiple disciplines including Forensic Pathology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Critical Care, Transplant Surgery, Cardiovascular Surgery, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Radiology. Although I am not committed to a particular field, I do feel more aware of the multitude of options. I have enjoyed each of my shadowing experiences, each of which has solidified my decision to pursue a career as a physician.

I intend to graduate from IUPUI in May of 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry, as well as a minor in Spanish. I am currently preparing to take the MCAT, and then will apply to medical schools in the United States. I hope to continue my education throughout life by practicing medicine, conducting research, and teaching other scholars with the knowledge I have attained. I hope to have the opportunity to conduct medicine and/or research internationally. In this way, I desire to understand different cultures and viewpoints, particularly in regards to global health, medical practices, and access to care.
