Course Objectives:

Spanish 1-Pre IB is a course designed to bring students to an intermediate level of proficiency in the Spanish language. The course focuses on Spanish grammar and emphasizes in particular listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The basic pedagogical tools utilized in the course include: listening comprehension activities, individual and group oral work, in depth cultural study, readings, audio, and video resources, and Web based language interaction. The class will be conducted in Spanish.

At the end of this course, students will be expected to:

1. Speak Spanish at an acceptable intermediate level, with general mastery of Spanish verb tenses, Spanish syntax, and Spanish vocabulary.
2. Write basic compositions using intermediate level sentence structures and vocabulary.
3. Read and comprehend intermediate level Spanish texts reflecting a variety of themes and interest from Spanish speaking countries.
4. Listen with intermediate-level understanding to authentic Spanish speakers with a variety of accents in diverse cultural and professional contexts.
