Bank Robber's Knot

Instructions on how to tie a bank robber's knot
HighwaymansHitch.jpg

Also known as highwayman's hitch, this quick release knot was used for quick getaways by bank robbers and other gangsters. One tug of the rope and the horse is free. This knot is the safest and easiest to release. I recommend using it whenever possible.

Bank Robber's Knot Instructions

  1. Loop the rope as shown behind the post. Hold
  2. Create another loop from the end attached to the horse, and wrap it around the front of the post and through the first loop, as shown.
  3. Create a third loop from the loose end as shown, and wrap it around the front of the post and through the second loop. Pull tight.
  4. To release, simply pull on the loose end.
