It is important to know how to properly tie your horse before you tie him. You may need to quickly untie your horse to release the pressure in an emergency situation. This style of knot will allow you to do so, even if the rope is tight.

Quick Release Slip Knot Instructions

  1. Pull loose end of rope through tie ring, or around post, and create a loop behind end connected to horse as illustrated. Hold.
  2. Create another loop with loose end and slip it over connected rope and through the first loop created as illustrated.

  3. Pull second loop tight to create a knot as shown.

  4. For more security, create a third loop and place it through the second loop, Pull tight.

  5. As illustrated place loose end through loop. Do not pull tight.

  6. To release, pull loose end out of the loop, and pull.
