Student Opportunities to Earn Industry Credentials
Both teachers are certified to teach American Red Cross Pet First Aid and CPR and updated their certification to the new course last school year. Students have been able to attain Pet First Aid and CPR certification for many years. Last year's student certification list and teacher recertification documentation is attached. Both teachers have been certified by the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) under both the old certification system and the new certification system. During the 2008 – 2009 school year 21 of the Advanced Animal Science students earned certification through NAPPS using the old system. Students are currently preparing to take the new NAPPS certification test in the spring.
There are no program industry certifications for this area.
Both teachers are certified by the American Red Cross as instructors for Pet First Aid and CPR, by the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters as certified pet sitters, by SMART Technologies as Master SmartBoard users, by Arlington County as competent in technology and by Virginia Commonwealth University as Child Abuse and Neglect Responders. Both Scott Lockhart and Kelsey Netting are certified by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technicians. Scott Lockhart is also certified as a Laboratory Animal Technician and as a Laboratory Animal Technologist. Cindy Schall received a certificate from The Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine for attending the 6th Annual International Conference on Exotics. Scott has also been certified by the Emergency Management Institute in both Animals in Disaster, Awareness and Preparedness and Animals in Disaster, Community Planning.

Teachers in Arlington are required to document their professional development. During the teacher evaluation meeting at the end of the year, the professional development undertaken by the teachers is discussed. Attached are the documents completed by both teachers for three years.
