| Context: This unit was designed for CI 3750, Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching for Spring 2008. It was created under the advisement of Jeff Goodman. Impact on Student Learning: This webpage was designed to introduce my peers, parents, and students to many different webpages that can be used as a great tool in the education of students. It also contains a calendar which will keep my students and their parents informed about upcoming events. Alignment: NETS-T II B - Teachers apply current research on teaching and learning with technology when planning learning environment and experiences. This standard was met with the use of a media literacy questionnaire that I designed with the help of several articles about media technology and our children. By having the individual students complete the questionnaire, I have acquired knowledge on how the media influences children. I will be able to use this knowledge as I begin teaching in a media-influenced world. NETS-T II C - Teachers identify and locate technology resources and evaluate them for accuracy and suitability. This standard was met with the use of webpages as a resource for parents, teachers, and students. These webpages are not only educational but fun. From my personal webpage, I have linked several webpages for teachers, parents, and students with a brief description for each. NETS-T II E - Teachers plan strategies to manage student learning in a technology-enhanced environment. This standard was met by posting a homework page onto my webpage. With the homework page, students and parents will have access to any assignments that will be due. I also posted a calendar page with a printable monthly calendar, as well as the school calendar link. The monthly calendar can be printed, marked with important dates that are listed on my webpage, and hung on the refrigerator as a reminder. NETS-T IV B - Teachers use technology resources to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings to improve instructional practice and maximize student learning. This standard was met with the media literacy questionnaire, research, and results. I used the internet to help me determine what questions I would ask students about what part media played in their lives. I also used the internet to find articles about media technology and children and posted some of them as links from my media literacy tab. NETS-T V A - Teachers use technology resources to engage in ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. This standard was met by including a teachers' resource page on my website. The page includes several educational website links to help teachers, allowing access to lesson plans and educational resources for teachers. NETS-T V B - Teachers continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of student learning. This standard was met through the media literacy questionnaire and the results I obtained from it. With information from the questionnaire, I will be able to better understand my students and how media influences and affects their lives. NETS-T VI A - Teachers model and teach legal and ethical practice related to technology use. This standard was met by posting and using a media release form for permission from parents to photograph, videotape, and audiotape their children. By obtaining a signed media release form from a child's parent, I can post a child's picture on my webpage. NETS-T VI C - Teachers identify and use technology resources that affirm diversity. This standard was met by attaching a media release form in both English and Spanish on the photo gallery page of my webpage. |
