Photo Essay

Context:

I made this artifact under the supervision of Mr. Jeff Goodman in GS 4401, Science and Science Teaching in Elementary School.  The photo essay is a compilation of pictures that I took on a walk one day.  With the pictures there are some thought provoking science questions that will help my students to realize that science is all around.  The science topics include: biology, physical science, and current science events.

Impact:

I would probably use this powerpoint to spark discussion with students about science in the world around us.  Students should be able to look at the pictures and come up with their own science questions.  This artifact could be an introduction to examining the environment and thinking about how science affects our lives every day.

I would like to have students do this project as a class.  The students could take walks or look around the classroom to find things that spark their interest in science.  We can create relevant questions as a class and then try to find some of the answers.

Alignment:

Standard 15 Indicator 1:  Each student will have equal opportunities to look around their environment and see the same things.  Science affects the lives of all students, not just those with a high socioeconomic status.  Additionally, previous experience with science is not really needed.  Therefore, students who are not as interested in science will not be left out.
