Hamdard Center for Health and Human Services is a multilingual, multicultural social and health service agency dedicated to serving the South Asian, Middle Eastern and Bosnian communities in Illinois. They promote physical and emotional health and psychology wellbeing of the individuals and families by offering hope, help, and healing. Hamdard's youth program serves children ages 6-12 through a recreation day camp in the summer and an after-school enrichment program that includes skill-building and academic workshops. In November 2011, Hamdard partnered with Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana to launch their first community organization based Girl Scout program in order to builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
As a Girl Scout Troop Coordinaor, I co-lead a diverse troop of girls ages 7-12. I facilitate a weekly hour-long workshops focusing on community engagement, leadership development and confidence building. I also plan and implement field trips, service activities, cultural exchanges, and fundraising. Through my work with Girl Scouts, I hope girls discover the power of a girl-focused community and the uniqueness of every girl and the community where they live. I work to help girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.
