Loyola University Chicago - Community Youth Support Specialist

This experience deepened my belief in the power education has to transform individuals and communities and cemented my interest in the non-profit sector and community-based educational, youth leadership and social justice work.

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

Program Management

  • Promote civic engagement and community-based learning on campus
  • Participate in weekly meetings and strategic planning sessions for Center for Experiential Learning Programs
  • Participate in exploration and launch of new community-based learning sites
  • Establish and maintain excellent communication and relationships with community-based learning host sites
  • Assist with student recruitment (generating visibility through social media and on-campus marketing, hosting information and on-campus recruiting sessions)
  • Track student application and enrollment in community-based federal work-study positions
  • Plan and implement site visits to community-based learning sites
  • Support community-based federal work-study host sites and managers throughout the year on case-by-case basis
  • Gather and archive documentation of program year using a digital camera, audio recorder and video camera
  • Advance community-based learning efforts by supporting implementation of programmatic evaluation

 

Partnership Building and Development

  • Establish centralized system for partnership recruitment and development efforts (generating visibility, speaking to community-based organizations, conduct intake meetings)
  • Assist with cultivating new partnership relationships
  • Build partnerships with community-based non-profit organizations in the Chicagoland area
  • Collaborate with community members, non-profit leaders and educators to create opportunities for Loyola students to positively influence the lives of young people through after-school programming, mentoring, tutoring and advocacy
  • Work individually with community-based learning site managers on case-by-case
  • Maintain relationships with public, charter and private schools and community-based organizations through professional development workshops, site visits, evaluation, and documentation
  • Travel to multiple locations throughout the day/week via reliable transportation

 

Communications and Marketing

  • Manage Community Youth Support Initiative and Project Impact website including creating and uploading content such as lesson plans, student projects, image, and audio and video clips
  • Create written materials explaining the Community Youth Support Initiative work and operations for internal use
  • Communicate with students and community-based learning sites in person and via email and phone
  • Assist with public promotion of the Community Youth Support Initiative and dissemination of related marketing materials
  • Create marketing materials and publications using Vertical Response
  • Writing for newsletters and website
  • Graphic design projects
  • Photography and video of community-based learning sites
  • Website maintenance

 

Professional Develop and Training

  • Organize and assist in facilitation of professional development workshops for teachers, youth workers, and student volunteers
  • Coordinate schedule of trainings and organize training material
  • Work with professional trainers, facilitators, and educators on the implementation of professional development workshops
  • Participate in professional and career development trainings including conflict resolution, team management, Adultism, youth development, wellness for youth workers and building relationships with young people
