This lesson was very short. Thus, there were no assessments given in this lesson. The workbooks are checked, but not graded. Students who complete their workbooks are given a stamp indicating that the teacher has seen the work. However, in this lesson, I did take the opportunity to use a literacy technique, namely having the students write a summarization of the events in the last lesson as a means of refreshing the information in their heads at the beginning of the lesson. A sample summary can be viewed below. In the summary, you will see a reference to the students having watched a movie. This was the idea of my mentor teacher, who was putting on a showing of a movie at a local community college and wanted to drum up student interesting going to see the movie. I decided to use it as bellwork and had the students each write down 5 words they heard in the move, but it was not originally part of my lesson plan for day one.
