Net Operations

"Net Operations, or a Controlled Net, is a system for coordinating communication among groups of four or more people" (CERT Emergency Communications, 2012, p. 28).

  • Small teams communicating among themselves use standard radio protocol.
  • When teams connect with other teams they need to contact a Net Control operator
  • A controlled net has one or more Net Control Operators.
  • The net control operator will direct a call with whoever you need to speak.
  • The net control operator may direct you to stand-by or direct you to another channel.
  • Calls are prioritized in the net operations by the nature of the message.
