This is where we share samples of student work!  Check back weekly for updates.

Weaving Projects

Here is a look into some of the weaving we've been up to with recycled goods in the classroom.

Labels for our science area...

Lily and Dylan work on labels.JPG

This week, Lily and Dylan took it upon themselves to make labels for some of the neat artifacts we found during our day in nature last week. They also mentioned what they love about those things!

Skateboard City

Overlooking Skateboard City

We've been seeing an explosion of building in the classroom lately! Here is one example of building with blocks which took place this week. Bennett and Leo erected "Skateboard City", gave their peers a tour of the city, and showed off some "finger" skateboarding skills within the city!

Ladybugs

A small group investigation
Carly's Ladybug

Our adventures in the garden yielded another exciting discovery…ladybugs!  We caught three and created a temporary habitat for them in a glass jar in the classroom.  Carly drew a picture of a ladybug to go with the jar so that everyone who came to visit the science center would know what we were studying there.   Many other students shared things they knew about ladybugs and some original stories. Enjoy!

Ladybug Facts:

“Ladybugs protect the garden so other bugs don’t eat the plants.” – Owen

“Ladybugs homes are in the grass.  They start as an egg and they don’t eat people.” – Brooks H.

“One flew around and crashed. If it bleeds, then it is not okay.  They look so tiny when they are a baby that you can’t see them.” –Brooks L.

Ladybug Stories:

“One day there was 3 ladybugs.  They were girls. They kissed a prince frog. Then the frog turned into a prince and the ladybugs turned into princesses.” –Kate

“A ladybug crawled edge to edge on my wall. The grass was so sweet they stayed in my grass. I caught some ladybugs by noon when I was not in afterschool. I caught them with my bare, bare hands and I let them go.” – Dylan

“When this ladybug went to school it got a tummy ache and it didn’t feel good. It went home and asked his mom, ‘have you seen a butterfly?’ Mom said ‘yes, I’ve seen a butterfly’ and then the ladybug wasn’t sick anymore.” – Carly

“Ladybug climbed to a wall and then climbed to another wall. It found a humongous remote control that a person used.  It was for playing games on your TV. The ladybug made it part of its house and the speaker was the door.” – Owen
