This is the submission of the Week 1 requirements for ESL 523 that discusses the English Only debate. This paper meets the requirements for Arizona's Professional Teacher Standard 8, Performance Assessments 12 & 13 that deal with schools as organizations within the larger community context and the rights of the students, parents, and teachers.
This paper outlines various strategies and techniques that are used to teach English Language Learners (ELLs) and help provide a means to bridge the gap between them and their English-only mainstream peers. It also completes the ESL 523 requirements for Week 5. The completion of the paper also satisfies the AZ Teacher Standards 3 (1-15) and 4 (1).
