At Salpointe we offer art courses as stepping stones that build greater and greater levels of creative skill building, technical competency, craftsmanship and student voice. Our new art curriculum branches off into two tracks. The 2-Dimensional track includes the following courses, which specialize in drawing, design, printmaking, painting and relief: Intro to Art, 2-D Emphasis, Intermediate Art, 2-D Emphasis, & Advanced Art, 2-D Emphasis. The 3-Dimensional track includes the following courses, which specialize in ceramics, sculpture and relief: Intro to Art, 3-D Emphasis, Intermediate Art, 3-D Emphasis, and Advanced Art, 3-D Emphasis. The capstone art course for both 2D and 3D art is AP Studio Art, which is a College Board approved course that gives students the opportunity to earn college level fine arts credit through a portfolio submission.
Featured to the left are Salpointe art students at the Pima County Superior Courthouse, Courthouse Gallery show in Jan-Feb, 2012. At this exhibition students were privileged to watch a trial followed by a reception where they met two Superior court justices and talked about their artwork publicly.
All student work that is completed over the course of the school year may be a candidate for community exhibitions and others to include: the annual 8th Congressional High School Competition hosted by Congressman Woman Gabrielle Giffords, and Salpointe's home grown Christmas and Spring Exhibitions. All artwork is selected for quality in composition, craftsmanship and message.
